Packed with biodiversity and filled with the sights and sounds of the world’s rainforests, this new exhibit has been created by the staff of the Children’s Museum at the Museum of the Southwest. Opened on May 25th and on display through December 30th, this educational and fun exhibit offers children and adults an amazing trip through one of the world’s truly incredible types of environments. Curator Karen Winkler notes, “Visitors will explore the four layers of a rainforest, from the canopy to the forest floor, and find everything ‘from A to Z’ without getting wet or needing bug spray!”
Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10:00am till 5:00pm, and Sundays 2:00-5:00 pm. Admission is $3 per person. Under three years of age are free. Members are free and Sundays are free. For more information click here.

This powerful rock opera tells the story of Jesus Christ through a contemporary interpretation of parables taken from the Gospel of St. Matthew. When a group of ten young people struggles to find common ground, events such as the Baptism, the Last Supper and the Passion of Christ encourage them to shed differences and joyfully follow their leader to create a loving and supportive community. Modern music set to traditional hymn lyrics completes this fascinating portrayal of the historical Jesus Christ. Presented by the Pickwick Players.

“Ta Ra Ra Boom D A!” Summer is here and UTPB is offering a selection of short music camps on campus for young musicians going into grades 9 through 12 to help them improve their performance in area competitions next year. July 19-23 will be Strings Week, also with a chamber music focus. The Permian Basin String Quartet will help these young orchestra members improve their technique within small groups. They will be treated to three live performances and will give a concert on Friday, July 23 for their parents and friends.
